Gamescom starts tomorrow, PSN down at same time

Posted by Staff on August 17, 2009 in Gaming |

We here at Silent Hill Resorts will endeavor to bring you as much news as we can, while filtering out most of the crap.

One interesting thing that has happened is that Sony has put the PSN into maintenance mode starting at 9am PST tomorrow. Why is that important? Because that is when Sony’s presentation starts at 6pm Germany time. The maintenance is expected to last until 11am PST/8pm Germany time.

This brings forth many questions and possible some answers. There is the ever present rumor of a PS3 Slim coming, as well as the long awaited price break on the PS3. Sony has also stated that a new firmware is close to coming out, which might coincide with any announcements tomorrow.

The PSPgo is close to being in the hands of the hungry, and with that Sony’s promise of all previous UMD titles being available on the PSN. This is the most likely reason for the update.

Other rumors:

  • PS2 backwards compatibility coming back via PSN download for free/fee
  • PS2 catalog additions to the PSN
  • More PS1 games on PSN (very likely)
  • A revised PSN store (very likely)
  • Digital Game Rentals (this is something we have wanted from Sony)

Will be interesting to see what comes from Gamescom tomorrow.
