Electronic Arts to release digital soundtracks
Medal of Honor, The Sims, and more to be available.
An article from my good friends over at The MacObserver states that Electronic Arts, otherwise known as EA, is bringing the soundtracks to many of their popular games to the net.
In a deal that leaves the specifics undisclosed, EA has teamed with Nettwerk Music Group to digitize all the soundtracks and manage the library.
Music from games such as Medal of Honor, The Sims, Command & Conquer, and more will be available on a wide range of services including the most popular iTunes Music Store, run by Apple Computer Inc..
According to TMO, there is no word yet on when EA’s music will be available on the iTMS.
This marks the second well known video game company to have a huge impact on the digital medium with music, and especially the iTMS. SquareEnix released all of their Final Fantasy soundtracks as digital downloads on the iTMS earlier this year. You can see those by clicking on the image at the end of this article.
So what does this bode for the rest of the industry? Hopefully glad tidings, as outside of companies like Konami, who with V.3 of Silent Hill included the soundtrack and offered the V.4 soundtrack with pre-orders, there are very few companies selling the game soundtracks as a North American release.
We here sincerely hope that other video game publishers catch on to this idea and start releasing their soundtracks all over the world, as those import fees (even from Amazon) are horrendous.
