X-Play picks the Se7en scariest Silent Hill moments

X-Play, back in January (when we had issues with our backend), picked their top seven scariest Silent Hill moments.

For those not wanting to watch the video, here is what they picked:

7. Insane Cancer from V.3

6. Peeping Out the Door from V.4

5. The Dog Ending from V.2

4. The Cat in the Locker from V.1

3. The Headless Mannequin from V.3

2. Pyramid Head Rape from V.2

1. The Mirror Room from V.3

While we agree that some of those were quite scary (#1 scared the crap out of us when we played it) we can’t help but think that there are scarier, or at least more freaky, moments in the games history. Choosing things like the Dog Ending and the Insane Cancer seems to be a bit of a cop out, as they aren’t scary or really freaky compared to other moments in the past decade. As well, while the mannequin scene is a bit disconcerting it isn’t exactly up there on the “shit your pants” level of scares.

Where is the talk of the music, or lack thereof, in most of the games? The phone scene from V.1 where Harry gets a call from Cheryl while he is exploring Midwich Elementary? Seeing Maria get killed in the hall to elevator chase with Pyramid Head in the hospital from V.2?

We feel there are much better moments in the series to have chosen from, but we would like to hear from you. What are your top scary moments from the Silent Hill series? Let us know in the comments.

#1 In SH 1 the monster that pulls you in if you don’t use the ring on the chain. And #2 when the TV kicks on and you daugher is begging for you.#3 In SH 2 when your in the prison and you can hear someone in one of the cells, but you can’t see him even when you kill him.#4 In 3 when you go in the bathrooms and nock someone answers but when you walk away the door opens and it looks like a blood letting. And #5 when you get the Happy Birthday call.#6 In 4 when you look through your peep hole and Walters right there looking in..and #7when you find Walter in your wall.

the mannequins head really is a scary one. also i was afraid in origins when you had to see through the peepholes and then you see the butcher but he does nothing .the haunted mansion in the 3rd game was terrifying. the cat in sh1 was also frigtening .Oh and dont forget Eilleen head in silent hill 4 .god that was scary.last one in origins when you find all the organs and apply into the fake body and it opens its eyes suddenly..(trivia time: in the otherworld the fake body you apply the organs is a real person and since you took its fake eyes in the mist world he doesnt have eyes in the otherworld.creepy)

geez. They picked horrible scary moments. Although I admit the mirror room is quite terrifying. I think in two when you knock on the bathroom door(cant remember which level) and walk a bit away you hear a scream. In four after you go into the hole after your first time in the subway that part always startles me. In four some of the hauntings really creeped me out. Like the kid’s heads and the shoes. I really dont know why the shoes scared me….

Um… from the first game those sirens… and then the Otherworld but I have to admit that I fell in love with it.

One of my favorites is SH3 Haunted Mansion, when that body falls from the ceiling hanging down, that almost gave me a heart attack and then that red light! I was so nervous! from the same game the wheel chairs and the room with the mirror and that’s all. Everything else.. startled me but never scared me.

And some “Hauntings” from SH4 like that picture that suddenly changed into one of Walter Sullivan haha…
